Data are measurements or observations that are gathered for an event under study.  Data is the fundamental component in the branch of mathematics called Statistics.  When we collect, organize, summarize, and present data and draw general conclusions from the data, we are practicing the science of Statistics.

One way to summarize quantitative data is to calculate a measure of average.  The video explains how to calculate the mean, median, and mode and some key differences between these statistics.

Measures of variation are also common statistics to report when summarizing quantitative data.  The video shows how to calculate the range, variance, and standard deviation and explains what each means.
