This class will teach students to:

• Produce oral communications (speaking opportunities) using words and simple phrases learned in specific contexts.
• Produce writing that responds appropriately to a variety of rhetorical situations (audiences, purposes, and contexts).
• Comprehend spoken Spanish with sufficient ability to grasp the main idea and some supporting details in short conversations, both spontaneous and taped, that relate to daily life and represent authentic situations.
• Demonstrate comprehension of highly contextualized texts.
• Explore the elements of various Spanish-speaking cultures.
