When you need barcodes or spine label stock, please contact Diane Childress.
We use Label Maker 4.11 (InfoWorks) for spine label printing.
Why do libraries conduct inventories?
To reconcile what is on the shelf with the library catalog.
Over time missing books, withdrawals, human error and changes in cataloging practices contribute to discrpancies between a library's actual holdings and the library catalog. Often these inconsistencies are minor. There are instances when a patron and/or staff member can spend a significant amount of time searching for an item listed in the catalog, which has been lost, misplaced or withdrawn from the collection. Not only do such incidents cause frustration and confusion, they also erode a users' confidence to deliver information in a timely and efficient manner. When requests are not filled because an item cannot be found, it is a good sign that it’s time to do an inventory.

RDA (Resource Description and Access) is the new cataloging standard that replaces AACR2. March 31, 2013 was the implementation date for the Library of Congress. RDA is a very flexible content standard designed for a digital environment.
RDA is based on FRBR (Functional Requirements of Bibliographic Records), a conceptual entity-relationship model developed by the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) that relates user tasks of retrieval and access in online library catalogues and bibliographic databases from a user’s perspective. Fully implemented, RDA will allow better machine to machine transfer of data (XML from publishers).
Two guiding principles of RDA:
Marcive, the vendor we use to maintain our name, series and subject entries in the catalog, will begin updating our bibliographic files to align our records with RDA practices. This link is a PowerPoint from Marcive describing a new service. Updates will begin in October 2013.
