It can involve working with many different writing technologies, and mixing texts, data, and images. Written communication abilities develop through iterative experiences across the curriculum.

Writing fosters and refines our ability to explain, inform, and analyze ideas for others and ourselves.
Writing preserves our ideas, thoughts, reflections, and memories.
Writing allows us to entertain others, i.e,. Short stories, poetry, etc..
Writing allows us to organize our thoughts, i.e., to-do lists, journaling, etc.
